Another Target Find!

I dug back and didn't see that anyone mentioned this particular jacket, and if someone has I apologize. But this was to good a find at Target on clearance to pass up!

Warm Jacket/Coat )

I'm planning on adding some copper trim to it in order to make it more 'me.' And I fully intend on wearing it to see Sherlock Holmes this weekend. It's deliciously warm, and I'm always cold so that's something very impressive!

Some new Jewelry

Made a few more pieces of jewelry over the holiday; here's some preview pics. I'll be listing them on my Esty shop this week--prices range from $52.50 to $72.50 :) Little fuses: so cute :)

This one looks rather vampire-ish to me....

Old brass hotel key--this is the last of these keys: they went fast!

And a meter gauge, with crystals of course :)

Steampunk dress-partially completed registration?
[info]arktoi wrote in [info]sew_loli
Hey kids! Is it okay to post a registration for something I've already started/partially completed? I hope so...I really wanted to post this project because I'm pleased with how it's turning out so far. It's a steampunk dress set consisting of a bustle overdress in antique clock print fabric and a cream linen underdress.

The overdress is mostly finished, so I'm posting a combination registration/update. XD

Project Title :  Steampunk Overdress
Short Project Description: An underbust, bustle overdress with corsetted back and front clip-straps for extra bustlage
Projected Deadline: None in particular, just ASAP
Pattern(s) Used: My own
Materials needed: Antique clock fabric (hand-dyed from white to tan), lace, loop trim, ribbon, strap trim, brass clip buckles
Challenges or obstacles : i just really want it to come out as awesome as I hope it will, because I can't get any more of this fabric if i mess up.
Progress: 99% complete; i just need to make the bias binding for the armholes and sew down the last of the lace trim on the neckline.

Now for registration number 2: The underdress

Project Registration Form

Project Title :  Steampunk underdress
Short Project Description:  a cream striped linen underdress with ruffled round collar, shirred waist, long gathered sleeves, and pintuck and ruffle detail
Projected Deadline: ASAP
Pattern(s) Used:
My own
Materials needed:  Cream stripe linen, elastic, lace
Challenges or obstacles: Heh. It's time for another round of Erin is Dumb. I really shouldn't sew when I'm tired XD. I was making lovely progress, had the main bodice pieces sewn together, and added the skirt. My first dumb move was not ironing in the pintucks BEFORE sewing the skirt to the bodice; i did it afterward. It's so much harder to keep them even when you can't lay the fabric flat. >_<;; my second dumb move: I accidentally sewed the skirt to the bodice inside-out. You can see in the picture below, the bodice seams are on the outside. GO ME. So the only solution is to rip off the entire skirt and re-do it. However, I can do the rest of the pintucks before I sew it back on, so that's a plus.

Underdress progress, and my new toy... )

Books, Books, and more BOOKS
[info]corvidaen wrote in [info]steamfashion
Greetings, Clockwork Community~!

I, being quite unaccustomed to writing on the topic of myself for much more than a few sentences, will attempt to share my excitement concerning the upcoming week-or-so. Three items I thus relate:

I have been invited to attend a Book Club meeting held by one of my friends and, since the work is none other than Jane Eyre, I've seen it fit to give myself a few belated Christmas presents to take advantage of the only chance I've had in a long while to dress up. I have the boots and an assortment of accessories that pique my excessively large vanity, but I still need to find a decent jacket. I just hope I have time to finish the knitting I want.

A different friend recently brought my attention to an upcoming book series, which I consider delightfully steampunk: http://www.theinfernaldevices.com/
I refer you to the character page, at which point you may want to turn on your speakers and clap your hands with joy. At least I did.

Last but hopefully not least, I've finished the latest draft of my own book, entitled The Storytellers. It's been a work long in the making, and it's given me new life knowing that it's so near completion. I couldn't quite call it a steampunk fantasy, but it's definitely influenced by my interest in Victorian fashions and the written word. I would call it more bookpunk--abilities and machines, mechanical or otherwise, are driven by the energy expended on creating works of fiction.

Have a nice day.

Book help!

Hello wonderful steampunk friends!

I'm a long time follower and lover of this community and all the wonderful creative people here and I was hoping to mine you all as a resource.

I'm in the beginning stages of writing a YAF steampunk novel set (at least partially) in Chicago. I know we have a strong Chicago group on here, so I was hoping some of you might know of some books that have a good history of Chicago. Especially any books that might have pictures and descriptions of the downtown and/or lakeside area.

Any suggestions would be super appreciated!

Thanks so muc!

Project Title : Mary Magdalene Loves Flowers JSK and Bonnet.
Short Project Description: A classic JSK and sunbonnet in a baby blue/red victorian damask pattern.
Projected Deadline: No Deadline. Hopefully some time at the end of January, I'm taking my time with this.
Pattern(s) Used: None.
Materials needed: 3.5 Metres of the fabric. A nice heavy cotton. A yard of lining material for the bodice.
Challenges or obstacles : First JSK so that may be a challenge. Lack of knowing how I want it to end up as far as design goes. And also a lack of lace. I nixed the idea of using the lace in the picture, It looks too cheap for my taste. So I need to get some suitable lace to rit dye red to match.
